Of late, Kings XI Punjab’s ex-captain Glenn Maxwell has been in the news for the wrong reasons. The Australian is already grappling with allegations of match-fixing and then came the report by a popular tabloid, where Maxwell despite being sloshed in Rajkot, Gujarat (which is a dry state) chose to cycle his way back to the hotel and that too without informing the team manager, local liaison officer and also the integrity officer during IPL 2017. Needless to say that Maxwell being under the influence of alcohol was out of control and fell off the bicycle. Fortunately, a local Samaritan recognised him and helped him back to the hotel.
The news got people shell-shocked and like a responsible celebrity, Preity Zinta preached the message of, ‘Do Not Drink and Drive’. She shared a video on social media, wherein a drunk man was seen riding a bicycle. The man falls off as he was under the influence of alcohol and was unable to gain control over the cycle. The video has a striking similarity to Maxwell’s. We are not saying that Preity is taking pot-shots at the former captain of KXIP. All we want to convey is that the actress is quite a responsible citizen of India and Maxwell should have definitely picked up something from her.
The newspaper got in touch with a BCCI official who on the condition of anonymity said, “We chose not to make the incident public because it could have led to a lot of controversies. So we don’t know what kind of information he had given to the ACU. On this occasion, Maxwell did not even inform his team manager, leave aside the integrity officer or security staff. Ideally, he should not have gone out because it was a security risk. If he still had to go, he should have gone with the security cover. But Maxwell chose to go alone, and come back alone in an inebriated state.”
