Sonakshi Sinha plays the main lead in Khandaani Shafakhana, that is directed by Shilpi Dasgupta. The movie is about how a girl is entrusted to take care of her deceased maternal uncle's sex clinic and the troubles that come with it. The movie also stars Varun Sharma and has rapper Badshah make his acting debut. Considering there are discussions of sex and the problems associated with it, Khandaani Shafakhana was promoted as a comedy that breaks conventions and taboos. And seeing how previous such movies like Vicky Donor and Shubh Mangal Saavdhaan worked well at the box office, Khandaani Shafakhana was expected to do similar business. Khandaani Shafakhana Movie Review: Sonakshi Sinha and Badshah’s Film Brings Sex Out in the Open but Isn’t Bold or Funny Enough.

The reality is far from different though. The movie, which was released on August 2, has only got about 10% occupancy. Meanwhile, its competitor from Hollywood, Hobbs & Shaw, got off to a better start with 30% occupancy and is expected to have more footfalls in the later shows. Box Office Report: Sonakshi Sinha Starrer Khandaani Shafakhana Off to a Disastrous Start, Hollywood Action Flick Hobbs & Shaw Witnesses Good Occupancy.

The same cannot be said about Khandaani Shafakhana. There are certain unverified reports coming in that Sonakshi's film is not exactly pulling in the audiences, and therefore shows of the film are getting cancelled on its opening day itself. Trade analyst Sumit Kadel has tweeted about this, saying shows of the film in many centres are cancelled due to lack of demand.

Check out his tweet below:

This isn't surprising since Khandaani Shafakhana's pre-release buzz has been very underwhelming, to say the least. Apart from being Badshah's acting debut and the "Sheher Ki Ladki" remix. Unlike Vicky Donor or Shubh Mangal Saavdhaan, the movie also didn't get many positive reviews. What's more, Khandaani Shafakhana, while occasionally funny, isn't the full-length comedy as they promoted.

If this tanks, and going by the signs, that is a high possibility, then Khandaani Shafakhana is Sonakshi's fourth flop in a row, after Welcome to New York, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, and Kalank. Her last film that somewhat performed decently was the 2017 film Ittefaq. She will be seen next in Mission Mangal, which has the advantage of starring Akshay Kumar who could push the film's prospects at the box office ahead.
