Kesari Box Office Collection Day 5: Akshay Kumar Starrer Witnesses a Sharp Drop on Monday, Rakes in Rs 86.32 Crore
Kesari held up well in North India on Monday despite witnessing a drop in its collection.
Akshay Kumar, who has been consistent with his box office track record, has kicked off another year on a good note. His much-awaited historical war drama Kesari released on March 21 and got off to a flying start as it became the biggest opener of 2019, beating Ranveer Singh’s rap movie Gully Boy. Kesari, which is directed by Anurag Singh, continued its good run over the weekend and ended up collecting Rs 78.07 crore in the first four days itself. After registering big numbers in its extended four-day weekend, it was expected that the film would do well on the crucial Monday as well. However, Akshay starter witnessed a sharp drop in its collection on day 5 and clocked in Rs 8.25 crore. Kesari Box Office Collection Day 4: Akshay Kumar Starrer Becomes the Highest Opening Weekend Grosser of 2019, Earns Rs 78.07 Crore.
Announcing the same, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on the popular microblogging site Twitter, “Kesari should’ve collected in double digits on Mon... North circuits dominate, driving its biz... Faces more-than-required decline in some circuits... Tue-Thu crucial... Thu 21.06 cr, Fri 16.75 cr, Sat 18.75 cr, Sun 21.51 cr, Mon 8.25 cr. Total: ₹ 86.32 cr. India biz.”
Further, trade portal Boxofficeindia.com also noted, “Kesari had a drop of around 50% on Monday which is a normal drop. The collections held up well in the North and other mass markets like Rajasthan, Bihar, and CI but places in Mumbai and South saw a drop of around 55%. But this could always happen as the film performed well in these markets over the weekend for a Punjab based film where the main character is a sardaar.” Kesari Box Office Collection Day 3: Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra Starrer Enters the Rs 50 Crore Club, Rakes in Rs 56.51 Crore.
Kesari, which stars Parineeti Chopra in a special appearance, is jointly produced by Karan Johar, Aruna Bhatia, Hiroo Yash Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Sunir Khetarpal under the banners of Dharma Productions, Cape of Good Films, Azure Entertainment and Zee Studios.
