Akshay Kumar's film Kesari has already made two box office records and the film is yet to complete a week in the theatres. After registering the highest opening day collection, the historical war drama has now recorded the highest opening weekend collection of the year. The film, which is directed by Anurag Singh and co-stars Parineeti Chopra in a special cameo, came out on March 21 and stormed the box office by raking in Rs 21.50 crore on day 1. Since the film released on the eve of Holi, it took full advantage of the holiday and is now racing towards the Rs 100 crore club in India. Kesari Box Office Collection Day 3: Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra Starrer Enters the Rs 50 Crore Club, Rakes in Rs 56.51 Crore.
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to the microblogging site Twitter a while back and revealed the updated figures saying, "#Kesari puts up an impressive total... North circuits are superb... While the 4-day total is good, the biz on Sat and Sun should’ve been higher, since the word of mouth is excellent... Thu 21.50 cr, Fri 16.75 cr, Sat 18.75 cr, Sun 21.51 cr. Total: ₹ 78.07 cr. India biz."
He also tweeted, "Section of the industry feels #IPL2019 curtailed the growth of #Kesari on Sat [evening] and Sun... Two days that could’ve made a biggg difference to the *extended* weekend total... Weekdays pivotal... Strong numbers and solid trending [Mon-Thu] are a must."
Talking about Kesari's overall business till now, Adarsh further tweeted, "#Kesari benchmarks...Highest *Day 1* of 2019 [so far]: ₹ 21.06 cr, Crossed ₹ 50 cr: Day 3, Crossed ₹ 75 cr: Day 4. Highest opening weekend of 2019 [so far]: ₹ 78.07 cr [4 days; Thu-Sun] India biz." Kesari Box Office Collection Day 2: Akshay Kumar's Historical War Drama Has a Solid Saturday, Rakes in Rs 37.76 Crore.
Since the film has performed brilliantly so far, it is very much likely that Kesari will continue to get cash registers ringing in the coming days as well. Plus, there is no competition at the box office as such which means Akshay starrer could easily surpass the Rs 100 crore mark in week 1 itself.
