In an official announcement, it was confirmed that Katrina Kaif would be the female lead in the much-hyped Sooryavanshi. Akshay Kumar plays the main lead in the cop drama, that is to be directed by blockbuster king Rohit Shetty and produced by Karan Johar. We had already got a tease of Sooryavanshi in Simmba, where Akshay Kumar in his character appears towards the end of the film. Both Sooryavanshi and Simmba are part of the Singham-universe. Sooryavanshi: Katrina Kaif Comes on Board With Akshay Kumar in the Second Collaboration of Rohit Shetty and Karan Johar.

The release date of Sooryavanshi had been affixed some time back on Eid 2020, but it is now that the makers have announced who would play the female lead. This is Katrina Kaif's first film with Rohit Shetty as a director and second time with Karan Johar as a producer (first was Baar Baar Dekho). With Akshay Kumar, though, this would be Katrina's eighth Bollywood film. Though they were considered as a good-looking pair that has delivered big hits, Katrina and Akshay have never worked after the debacle of the 2010 film Tees Maar Khan.

Now after a gap of 9 years, they are coming back together which is quite exciting news. The only big roadblock to Sooryavanshi is Katrina's dear friend Salman Khan, who might bring his Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, Inshallah to Eid 2020.
