After Padmaavat's blitzkrieg at the box office, we are all set to see another hit on the way in the form of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. The anti-romcom has Kartik Aaryan, Nushrat Bharucha and Sunny Singh in the lead, and is directed by Luv Ranjan of Pyaar ka Punchnama fame. Riding on the same themes as the PKP series, the movie had a really good weekend, grossing Rs 26.57 crore at the domestic box office. Since Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is reportedly made on a budget of Rs 40 crore, there is still time for the movie to be deemed profitable (it has to gross more Rs 50 crore to be called that). However going by how the audiences are loving the movie, it doesn't seem a difficult task at all. So kudos to the producers, the cast and the crew of the movie to show that you don't need a big ticket name to deliver a success!
The favourable reception for Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is just another example of how comedy is being considered as a safe bet at the box office. Some of the most profitable ventures at the BO recently have all indulged in tickling the funny. Sure, Comedy doesn't have a cent percent success track as proven by the dismal performance of last Friday's other release, Welcome to New York. But then there are the below hits that show that that comedy still works better than other genres in getting profits for you. Here are six such movies,
