The Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed on July 26 every year, is a day to recognise the sacrifice of martyrs who laid down their lives in the 1999 Kargil War. The Indo-Pak Kargil War had over 2 lakh Indian troops deployed under Operation Vijay. ‘Sandese Aate Hai’

Be it the Kargil Vijay Diwas, Independence Day or Republic Day, no patriotic occasion in India is complete without this wonderful song. Director JP Dutta's 1997 film Border has given us the ultimate timeless song capturing the sacrifice of soldiers who stay away from their loved ones to protect their motherland. ‘Teri Mitti’

If "Sandese Aate Hain" is the go-to patriotic song for all '90s kids, the present-day classic is "Teri Mitti".  The song from the 2019 movie Kesari invokes the strongest of emotions, with B Praak's soul-stirring voice in Arko Pravo Mukherjee's composition and Manoj Muntashir's lyrics. "Teri Mitti" was one of the reasons for the box office success of Kesari.

‘Ae Watan’

This song is from the 2019 hit Raazi. Alia Bhatt delivered one of her career's finest performances in the Meghna Gulzar movie. The solo renditions by Sunidhi Chauhan and Arijit Singh are pure gold, with the lyrics by Gulzar and music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy.

‘Kandhon Se Milte Hain Kandhe’

"Kandhon Se Milte Hain Kandhe" is from the 2004 movie Lakshya starring Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta. The Farhan Akhtar film is hailed as a cult war movie though it did not do very well at the box office. Shankar Mahadevan, Sonu Nigam, Hariharan, Roop Kumar Rathod, Kunal Ganjawala and Vijay Prakash are the singers of the patriotic song, which was composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy and written by Javed Akhtar.

‘Hindustani’

It has been years but this peppy song from the 1999 movie Dus still rules our hearts. This number, featuring Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt, is a composition of Shankar Ehsaan Loy. It has been sung by four singers - Shankar Mahadevan, Mahalakshmi Iyer, Udit Narayan and Dominique Cerejo - with lyrics by Sameer.
