In a legal move, Bollywood director Karan Johar has approached the Bombay High Court to stop the release of film titled Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar. Reportedly, Johar argues that the film's title illegally uses his name and seeks a permanent injunction against its use. Urgently seeking a halt to the scheduled release on June 14, 2024, the petition was presented before Justice RI Chagla's bench. The bench has agreed to review the plea on Thursday (June 13). Karan Johar Shares His Opinion on the Kangana Ranaut Slap Controversy (Watch Video)

The petition filed by Karan seeks not only a temporary injunction but a permanent one, along with a restraining order against the filmmakers, barring them from utilising his name in the title of their film. Johar has also vehemently asserted that he holds no association whatsoever with the film or its creators, who are unlawfully appropriating his name for their own purposes.

Central to Johar's argument is the blatant violation of his personal rights, including his rights to publicity and privacy, as enshrined in legal statutes. By directly referencing his name in the title, the filmmakers are infringing upon Johar's individual identity and reputation, thereby encroaching upon his rights. Karan Johar Takes a Dig at Actors Demanding High Remuneration, Says ‘Many of Them Are Not in Touch With Reality’ (Watch Video).

Moreover, the legal action draws attention to the film's imminent release on June 14, accompanied by the widespread distribution of its trailers and posters across public domains and social media platforms. Johar highlighted the consequential damage these promotional materials inflicted upon his goodwill and reputation, asserting that such actions cause irreparable harm.

"These trailers and posters have caused and are continuing to cause irreparable loss and damage to the goodwill and reputation of Johar. Further, such a release of the film with the title containing his brand name 'Karan Johar,' together or in parts, will cause irreparable loss and damage to the goodwill and reputation which he has gained after investing huge amounts of time, effort, and money," the suit mentioned.
