Kangana Ranaut to Play a Kabaddi Player in Bareilly Ki Barfi Director's Next 'Panga'
Jassie Gill, who plays one of the leads in this week's release Happy Phirr Bhaag Jayegi, is playing her husband in the film.
Kangana Ranaut is quite busy playing Rani Laxmibai in the biopic Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, which is her most expensive project to date. She is also a part of the quirky romcom, Mental Hai Kya, opposite Rajkummar Rao. Now Kangana has given her nod to ply the lead in Bareilly Ki Barfi director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's next. Titled Panga, the movie has her play a kabaddi player, that too playing at a national level. However, Panga won't be a sports biopic or so. It would be a family drama that has entertaining elements, as per a report in Mumbai Mirror.
The report also states that Jassie Gill, who plays one of the leads in this week's release Happy Phirr Bhaag Jayegi, is playing her husband in the film. Speaking to Mirror, Kangana confirmed the project. She revealed, "When Ashwiny narrated the film’s story, I was completely moved. My family has been my pillar of strength and have always stood by me through thick and thin. I could really relate to the emotions of the film. Plus, Ashwiny is known for her slice-of-life films and I loved her recent work in Bareilly Ki Barfi. Panga is even more special for me as, for the first time, I will be playing the role of a National-level Kabaddi player. That’s going to be challenging for sure! I am looking forward to some exciting times with Ashwiny and the Fox Star team."
In the same report, Ashwiny talked about that Panga will follow that same gamut of emotions as her previous films (she has also directed the acclaimed Nil Battey Sanatta). She said, "I wanted to keep evolving with stories that talk about relationships in a new-age Indian family. Fox Star Studios is exactly in the same space of storytelling and I am filled with gratitude to work with them to see our vision unfold and create characters and stories that would be relatable to all and still be unique."
