Popular film director Kalpana Lajmi passed away at 64 and the news has left the fans and fraternity in the state of shock. She was reportedly suffering from a chronic kidney disease and liver failure. The filmmaker breathed her last in Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and the last rites will take place today, as per the reports in PTI. She was known for work on the subjects that are close to the common man and roots of the country and were women-centric. Her demise has saddened Twitterati and Actresses Soni Razdan, Huma Qureshi, filmmaker Onir are amongst her admirers who expressed the deepest condolence. The Gangs of Wasseypur star tweeted, “Deeply saddened... at around 4:30 am today morning #KalpanaLajmi passed away .. May she rest in peace.” Alia Bhatt’s mother posted, “I will miss her strong energetic voice, her indefatigable drive to create, her laughter that was always so full of real joy and her wonderful sense of humour. Most of all I will miss my movie partner. Cant believe you’re gone Kalpana. RIP sweetheart.”

Filmmaker Onir too shared a memorable and heartwarming experience of working with her with a couple of pictures. He posted, “RIP #KalpanaLajmi . My first exposure to a film shooting was while working as a song director and editor in Daman . Remember many evenings of food and music in her residence along with Bhupen Da. Learned a lot while working with her.”

The late director, producer and screenwriter, was known best for her cinematic masterpieces like "Rudaali". The critically acclaimed 1993 film starring Dimple Kapadia was, in fact, was also the Indian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 66th Academy Awards. Other noteworthy films by her are "Daman", "Darmiyaan” with her last one as a director being ‘Chingaari”. Kalpana Lajmi, you will be always remembered through your extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema.
