A few days back, Karan Johar surprised the hell out of us with a grand announcement. He has revealed his new production, Kalank, a grand multi-starrer, that is to be directed by 2 States fame Abhishek Varman. The movie will star Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Varun Dhawan and Aditya Roy Kapur. Kalank, which was earlier known as Shiddat, also went rolling on the same day it got announced.

The film, which is said to be a subject very close to Karan Johar's heart for 15 years, is a period drama, and therefore needs sets to be built to depict the era in which it is to be filmed. As per a report in DNA, a massive set has been put up in Film City, and it costs a whopping Rs 15 crore.

A source close to the project told the publication, "A huge set has been erected in Film City, which is under heavy security to ensure that pictures of the interiors are not leaked. They are also taking extra measures to keep the look of the cast under wraps." The sets are being supervised by Amrita Mahal Nakai, who has worked with Dharma Productions in movies like Student Of The Year, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani2 States and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

Getting into more specifics about the sets and the period setting, the source continued, "Karan got Amrita Mahal Nakai to work on the set’s design and structure. They have created an old Delhi mohalla with a mahal, where filming is currently on. Kalank is set against the backdrop of the Partition. Since it’s based in the 1940s, the set has been designed keeping that particular period in mind."

Kalank is scheduled to release on April 19, 2019. We can't wait to see what Karan Johar has in store for us with this period drama.
