Kalank: Karan Johar Flags Off the Shoot for Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sonakshi Sinha's Multistarrer
Kalank is all set to release on April 19, 2019.
In a day of two big announcements for Bollywood (the other being the Bhavesh Joshi teaser), Karan Johar has announced the so-long-in-wraps multi-starrer project, Kalank. Earlier titled Shiddat, it was supposed to star the late Sridevi. However, after her demise, she was replaced by her one of '90s contemporaries, Madhuri Dixit. It will also be after two decades that Madhuri Dixit will be working with Sanjay Dutt. The younger brigade of stars include Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sonakshi Sinha. Kalank is a period drama that is directed by Abhishek Varman of 2 States fame.
On the trail of the Kalank announcement, Karan Johar and co-producer Sajid Nadiadwala have also kickstarted the shoot of the movie sometime back. Along with the producers, were present two of the stars in the movie, Aditya and Sonakshi. To make up for Varun Dhawan's absence, his father David Dhawan was also present at the muhurat shoot. According to lead star Varun Dhawan, Kalank was a dream project for Karan Johar, 15 years in making. This is what he had tweeted, "#KALANK is a film KAran wanted to direct 15 years ago. Now 15 years later that dream will be realised. Feel honoured that I can be a part of this huge ensemble and Karan’s dream film directed by #Abhishek. happy to do my 3rd film with #SajidNadiadwala and thankful for the support."
Kalank is all set to release on April 19, 2019.
