Kalank: Here's Why Varun Dhawan Thinks Making the Movie in Present was a Better Idea than the One with Shah Rukh Khan - Kajol

Varun Dhawan thinks Kalank is made at the right time and it wouldn't have been possible 15 years back.

Not many know that Karan Johar had imagined making Kalank with Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Rani Mukerji and Ajay Devgn in the lead role. And this was some 15 years ago. It was Yash Johar's dream project and due to some unfortunate circumstances, he could never make it. However, Karan was initially scared and later thrilled to work on his brainchild and present a beautiful love story set during the partition time in India. While Varun stepped into SRK's shoes, Alia was offered Kajol's part. And though there's no scope for any comparisons between these huge names, Varun believes the present was a right time to go ahead with this storyline than the past. Alia Bhatt Reacts to Her Weird Skeletal ‘Hand’ Scene From Kalank Trailer; Reveals The Error Won’t Be There in the Movie.

In his recent media interaction when the October star was asked about stepping into SRK's shoes for Kalank, he said, "I don't think we have stepped into anyone's shoes because that film never got made. Also, that film was a little bit different than what we are doing. 15 years have passed. So today, of course, you can take more liberties, today technology is better, a lot of things have changed today and a lot of things have changed with the characters also."Varun Dhawan Denies Kalank Being Inspired by 'What the Body Remembers' Book.

He went on to elaborate on why making Kalank today makes more sense than in the past and a major reason behind it is the development in the world of VFX. They made Mughal-e-Azam when they made it but today with the kind of technology and the VFX we have and also with the way box office has gone for Alia and me and with so many cast members coming together, we can afford this budget. At least in my career, it was only possible now, 'cos I don't think I could have done such an expensive film a couple of years back." Well, we sincerely hope, it turns out to be more than simply a visual delight.
