Kalank Box Office Collection Day 5: Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt's Film Fares Below Average in the Extended Opening Weekend, Rakes in Rs 66.03 Crore
Kalank, which is struggling at the ticket windows, has ended its extended week 1 on a not-so-good note.
Karan Johar's much-awaited film Kalank finally hit the screens last Wednesday and though the film took a massive opening at the domestic box office, it's still struggling to make an impact at the ticket windows. Starring Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan in the lead, the magnum opus minted Rs 21.60 crore on day 1, however, the love saga fell flat the very next day and since then it just hasn't managed to recover at the box office. Made on a budget of Rs 150 crore, Kalank also features Madhuri Dixit Nene, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanjay Dutt and Kunal Kemmu. Kalank Box Office Collection Day 4: Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt's Film Witnesses a Dip, Earns Rs 54.40 Crore
Announcing the film's updated figures, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to the microblogging site Twitter a while back and wrote, "#Kalank is rejected... Has a lacklustre *extended* opening weekend... Will find it difficult to sustain on weekdays... Arrival of #AvengersEndgame [on Fri] will hit biz hard... Wed 21.60 cr, Thu 11.45 cr, Fri 11.60 cr, Sat 9.75 cr, Sun 11.63 cr. Total: ₹ 66.03 cr. India biz."
He also tweeted, "EXTENDED Opening Weekend...#Kesari: ₹ 78.07 cr / 3600 screens / Thu to Sun biz, #GullyBoy: ₹ 72.45 cr / 3350 screens / Thu to Sun biz, #Kalank: ₹ 66.03 cr / 4000 screens / Wed to Sun biz..Note: #TotalDhamaal [traditional Fri-Sun release]: ₹ 62.40 cr / 3700 screens."
Further, Boxofficeindia.com noted, "The collections on Sunday were a bit surprising as the film actually went up but it hardly makes a difference. The film lost the battle on Friday when collections went flat. It is inevitable the collections will have a big drop on Monday due to the weekend trend. The film did better in the metros like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore but was bad in mass centres and even a multiplex circuit like East Punjab was very poor." Kalank Box Office Collection Day 3: Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt's Multi-Starrer Is Inching Towards Rs 50 Crore Mark
Co-produced by Karan, Sajid Nadiadwala, and Fox Star Studios, Kalank which is directed by Abhishek Varman is Varun and Alia's fourth collaboration. And sadly, it's their first film which hasn't packed a solid punch at the Indian box office.
