John Abraham's Satyameva Jayate in Trouble For 'Hurting' Religious Sentiments - Read Deets

Satyameva Jayate is directed by Milap Zaveri and also stars Manoj Bajpayee and newcomer Aisha Sharma.

The controversial scene in Satyameva Jayate

Even a masala action thriller like Satyameva Jayate finds incredulous ways to supposedly hurt religious sentiments these days. Or has it become a habit for any group or political organisation to look for issues in a movie, and catch one that might hurt their religious or nationalist sentiment? We all remember the fuss Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat had created thanks to the Karni Sena who felt the movie hurts Rajput sentiments, without even seeing the movie. In the end, the protestors created much damage to the country's infrastructure with their protests, but the movie went on to make Rs 300 crore at the box office.

Now John Abraham's upcoming movie, Satyameva Jayate, has found itself in a religious soup after a political leader has accused the trailer of the movie to have hurt Muslim sentiments. The scene in question is a procession of Muharram being shown in the movie, and the accuser is Syed Ali Jafri, the general secretary of the BJP Minority Front. He has filed a complaint in Hyderabad about the trailer which he feels hurts the sentiments of the Shia community. He wants the movie to be censored by the Head Office of CBFC in Mumbai, and the particular scene to be taken off.

Speaking to the National Herald, Jafri said, "There is one shot in the trailer which shows the festival of Muharram and it depicts a scene of Matam (self-flagellation). The actor is later shown committing a murder following Matam. This has hurt our sentiments."

He also warned that if the scene is not deleted, then to expect protests and his party will not be allowing Satyameva Jayate to have a proper release.

ICYMI, here's the trailer of Satyameva Jayate -

While we don't know how good his threat is, we do hope that creativity wins and Satyameva Jayate manages to get a smooth release in theatres on August 15, where it is clashing with Akshay Kumar's Gold.

Satyameva Jayate is directed by Milap Zaveri and also stars Manoj Bajpayee and newcomer Aisha Sharma.
