In Sridevi's Memory: Jurassic Park, Baahubali, Baazigar - 7 Interesting Movies She Had Rejected Like A Boss In Her Career
While she has been part of many blockbusters (Mr India, Chaalbaaz, Karma to name a few), Sridevi has also rejected some huge movies in the process as well.
If you are kid from the '80s and the '90s and love Bollywood cinema, then I am sure Sridevi will hold a special place in your hearts. Actually calling Sridevi a Bollywood diva is an insult to her fantastic career. She is a true pan-India heroine, having had a successful movie career in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam cinema, apart from Bollywood. Not just that, she is one of the few actresses who ruled three decades in Indian cinema. Which actor can even boast of doing those?
While she has been part of many blockbusters (Mr India, Chaalbaaz, Karma to name a few), Sridevi has also rejected some huge movies in the process as well. Here are 7 such movies that our dear departed Sridevi has rejected like a boss!
Jurassic Park
This is a huge let-go! Director Steven Spielberg had offered a small role in the first Jurassic Park (and also the best) to Sridevi. However, the later rejected the same stating that the role didn't have much for her to do. Later Irrfan Khan became the first Indian actor to have a major role in the franchise; he played Simon Masrani, the new owner of the park in 2015's Jurassic World.
Beta
Before Madhuri Dixit made our hearts go Dhak Dhak, her role was first offered to Sridevi. Since Anil Kapoor, he best co-star and future brother-in-law, played the main lead, it would have been quite interesting to know how Sridevi would have impacted as the female lead.
Baazigar
If Abbas Mustan had their early plan brought to fruition, the movie would have had Sridevi in a double role, replacing both Kajol and Shilpa Shetty. So that means SRK get to push one off the building. We wonder how the whole twin concept would have worked out, since Sridevi was awesome in double roles.
Darr
For some reason, Sridevi chose to act with SRK in the drab Army when she had some very interesting opportunities to do so earlier. She was the first choice for the female lead in this Yash Chopra thriller. However, she rejected the movie as she felt she has played similar roles before, and the role fell on the lap of her Chandni co-star Juhi Chawla
Mohabbetein
Aditya Chopra is said to offer her an undisclosed role in the Shah Rukh Khan (not again!) movie. When she denied, they scrapped the whole part and even changed the storyline to cover up its absence.
Baghban
In an interview with Times Of India, Boney Kapoor was quoted saying, "She had rejected so many offers. There was a point when she came very close to doing a film with Amitabh Bachchan for Yash Chopra around 1999. Yashji and she share a comfort level. She was pursued for six months to do Baghban." Hema Malini later replaced her.
Baahubali
Ramya Krishnan was so excellent as Rajmata Sivagami that it was hard to believe that she was never the first choice for the role. Director SS Rajamouli had revealed that it was Sridevi whom he approached first for the role. Rajamouli had spoken to a channel about this where he said, he said, "After hearing series of wishes from her, our team got fed up. We also thought that it would be above our budget to meet her demands. Then we approached Ramya Krishnan and she proved herself fantastic and we now feel, we were lucky that we dropped the idea of having Sridevi in our film." However Sridevi denied any such thing had happened and expressed shock over Rajamouli's statements.
