Housefull 4: 5 Times When Akshay Kumar and Bobby Deol Came Together Onscreen And How These Movies Fared At The Box Office
After working with Salman Khan in Race 3, Bobby Deol is all set to join Akshay Kumar as one of the main leads in Housefull 4.
There is an interesting development happening if you have been a fan of the Housefull franchise. After working with Salman Khan in Race 3, Bobby Deol is all set to join Akshay Kumar as one of the main leads in Housefull 4. Riteish Deshmukh plays another lead here. Speaking to a news portal, Bobby Deol confirmed this news as he revealed, “I am really looking forward to collaborating with both the Sajids. I’ve always wanted to work with Sajid Nadiadwala and finally it’s happening. Akshay and I share a great rapport and it will be fun working with him again. Housefull 4 is a big franchise and I can’t wait for the film to start.”
While Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh have appeared in all the previous Housefull movies (with Boman Irani, Jacqueline Fernandez and Chunky Pandey also being constant fixtures), this is Bobby Deol's first appearance in the franchise. The actor has been quite choosy about his projects, taking enough time to select a movie, and suddenly we will see him three big projects (there is also Yamla Pagla Deewana 3).
Interestingly, this is not the first time Akshay and Bobby have worked together. Here are five movies where these stars have done together and how they fared at the box office.
Ajnabee
"Everything is planned!" Remember this line? Akshay Kumar had a career-defining role as the sneaky two-faced antagonist in this Abbas Mustan thriller, where Bobby Deol played the straight guy. The movie, inspired by the Hollywood thriller Consenting Adults, is filled with twists and turns, along with chartbuster songs, and was a hit at the box office. Akshay Kumar also won the Filmfare Award for the Best Actor in a Negative Role for his performance here.
Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo
Director Anil Sharma brought in an interesting cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol and Danny (and his younger brother, Kapil Sharma...no not The Kapil Sharma) for this war drama. However, the movie spent too much time on a listless love triangle, involving debutante Divya Khosla (before she married T-Series honcho Bhushan Kumar) and too much melodrama. The movie tanked at the box office.
Dosti: Friends Forever
In this Suneel Darshan movie, Akshay Kumar and Bobby Deol plays BFF's for life. They play out their friendship in such a mushy way that their romances with the ladies - Lara Dutta and Kareena Kapoor - get sidelined in the process. However the melodrama was too much for the audience and the movie failed to impress the audiences.
Thank You
If it was released today, this misogynistic comedy would have benefitted from Akshay Kumar's box office streak and audience's love for such comedies (see Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety's box office). However, despite boasting of an ensemble and some fairly humourous sequences (Irrfan is a blast!), Thank You was an average performer at the box office.
Om Shanti Om
This may be a kind of cheat since both Akshay and Bobby had cameos in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer and they didn't share a single frame. Bobby Deol appeared along with a plethora of other stars in the Deewangi Deewangi song, while Akshay Kumar nearly stole the show with one of the craziest Bollywood cameos ever filmed. The movie was a blockbuster at the box office.
Now we have to see Housefull 4 lives upto its name when the movie comes out next year. So how many of the above movies have you seen?
