If you ask a Bollywood fan, who is the most popular singer these days, he or she will most probably come up with one name - Arijit Singh. The former Fame Gurukul contestant may not have won that contest when it happened more than a decade ago, but he is the only from the show who achieved massive popularity and acclaim in Bollywood. Today, Arijit Singh celebrates his 31st birthday. On behalf of the entire LatestLY desk, we wish the massively popular singer Many Many Happy Returns of the Day!

Unless it is a Salman Khan movie (whose ego war with Arijit is quite notorious), there is a rarely a soundtrack that doesn't feature an Arijit Singh song. His super busy Bollywood assignments and his concerts sometimes make us wonder whether this man is a robot who doesn't sleep or eat. Despite his frenzied schedule, Arijit rarely fails to deliver a good track. Some of his most famous tracks belong to movies like Ek Villain, Aashiqui 2, Dilwale, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. He has sung so many sad songs that it has now become a meme on Twitter. But Arijit has also sung many happy songs too, with one of the most recent examples being Subah Subah from Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety.

On the occasion of his birthday, we look at five of his most underrated songs that deserve to be on your play-list, if you claim to be a good Bollywood music lover, or at least an Arijit Singh fan.

Aayat

Movie: Bajirao Mastani.

The scores composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali is not for listeners who prefer peppy tracks, but rather for auteurs who love some class in their music. And what better example of this than this wonderful romantic song from the Ranveer Singh- Deepika Padukone blockbuster, that is fully owned by Arijit Singh's confident singing.

Laal Ishq

Movie: Goliyon Ki Raas Leela...Ram Leela

It is not just Bajirao Mastani, where Arijit delivered his best for SLB. Even in his previous film, Arijit Singh crooned what I believe is the best romantic track of the album, or for the matter, that year itself.

Phir Le Aaya Dil

Movie: Barfi

The entire soundtrack of this Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra-starrer is a win. However, Phir Le Aaya Dil, which is the best though not the most popular song from the album, deserves special love from being a mind-blowing melody that it is.

Gulon Mein Rang Bhare

Movie: Haider

This popular ghazal was written in jail by Faiz Ahmad Faiz and is from the collection Dast-e Saba. There have been quite a few versions of the song, but Arijit's take is more intimate, heavy and just beautiful.

Saaware

Movie: Phantom

Kabir Khan's spy thriller is as underrated as the songs from the movie. Even though it only has a couple of songs in its soundtrack, both of them are top notch. Especially this lilting track composed Pritam and sung effusively by Arijit.
