Gully Boy, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, is the big release of the week. The movie is directed by Zoya Akhtar, known for making a slice of life dramas like Luck By Chance, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Dil Dhakne Do. Gully Boy is inspired by the lives of rappers DIVINE and Naezy, while there have been accusations that the movie is inspired by Eminem's 8 Mile. Gully Boy also stars Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Raaz, Vijay Varma and Siddhant Chaturvedi. The movie opened at Berlin Film Festival 2019 earlier this week where it got some amazing response. We are watching Gully Boy right now and here's what we think about the first half. Gully Boy Music Review: Rocking Raps, Soulful Melodies, Politics With Jingostan, Azadi And More - This Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt Starrer Film Is a Brilliant Musical Package.

Murad comes from a family with limited means from the slums of Mumbai. Suppressed by his father's dominant nature and suffocating environs around him, Murad used his frustration as lyrics for rap. His.life changes after meeting with MC Sher, a terrific rapper. Sher mentors Murad and helps him gets his groove. His father is against his rapping ambitions and even his supportive girlfriend is not very keen on Murad aiming to work towards a career in music.

Gully Boy is an immersive experience as it sucks you right into Murad's colourful life and the rigorous rap battles. Zoya has managed to create a fine balance between drama, humour and romance. The dialogues are terrific. The acting is spot on. Ranveer and Alia are impressive, but it is newcomer Siddhant Chaturvedi who take you by surprise. What a bravura performance! The interval arrives with an opportunity that could take Murad and Sher into the big league. It also hints at cracks.
