Gully Boy is winning over both the audiences and the critics with immaculate. With the movie doing more than decent business at the box office, there is no doubt that its leading man, Ranveer Singh, is all set to score a hat-trick with the hits. In 2018, he gave two big hits in Padmaavat and Simmba, both earning more than Rs 300 crore at the box office. Which is why, compared to Ranveer's other two films, Gully Boy's opening weekend collection is lesser. There is also the fact the Pulwama terror attack, that happened on February 14, left the country in no mood to enjoy the film.

While Gully Boy is lagging behind both Simmba and Padmaavat when it comes to box office collections, its critical consensus is higher than than of both the movies. The movie has received very few negative reviews, whereas both Padmaavat and Simmba had got mixed response. However, there is Total Dhamaal coming out on February 22, that could put a dampener on Gully Boy's BO collections.
