With Gully Boy, Zoya Akhtar has once again proven her mettle as a filmmaker. Starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead, the film is based on the lives of street rappers Naezy and Divine. In fact, its the first mainstream Bollywood movie which completely revolves around rap music. And that seems to have struck a chord with the audience. After creating positive buzz and curiosity amongst the moviegoers, Gully Boy finally hit the theatres on February 14 and got off to a fantastic start. Though Ranveer and Alia starrer witnessed a dip on the second day, the film continued to mint money at the ticket windows and surpassed the Rs 50 crore mark in just three days. And now Zoya's directorial venture is heading towards the Rs 100 crore club. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to microblogging site Twitter and revealed the updated figures.

He wrote, "#GullyBoy has excellent *extended* weekend... Will cross ₹ 75 cr today [Mon]... Metros exceptional... Mumbai circuit is terrific... Tier-2 cities pick up... Metros to trend strongly on weekdays... Thu 19.40 cr, Fri 13.10 cr, Sat 18.65 cr, Sun 21.30 cr. Total: ₹ 72.45 cr. India biz."

Adarsh further tweeted, "#GullyBoy benchmarks...Crossed ₹ 50 cr: Day 3, ₹ 75 cr: Will cross on Day 5 [Mon] Will cross *lifetime biz* of Zoya Akhtar’s #DilDhadakneDo [₹ 76.88 cr] on Day 5 and #ZindagiNaMilegiDobara [₹ 90.27 cr; Zoya’s highest grossing film] in Week 1 itself. As per Boxofficeindia.com, Gully Boy is performing really well in most metro cities including Kolkata and Hyderabad. While the musical drama hasn't got cash registers ringing in smaller cities, the young crowd in urban areas will drive the film's collection in the coming days.
