After getting off to a terrific start at the domestic box office on the opening day, Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer Gully Boy witnessed a dip in the collections on day 2. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, the musical drama raked in Rs 19.40 crore on Thursday, February 14, and smashed the opening day record of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat in India. Since it was Valentine's Day, the film got a huge boost at the ticket windows on its first day. However, Gully Boy couldn't replicate the same figures on its second day in the theatres. Trade film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to microblogging site Twitter a while back and announced that the film saw a drop in its collection on day 2. He wrote, "#GullyBoy dips in metros [marginal] and mass circuits/Tier-2 cities [maximum] on Day 2... Day 3 [Sat] and Day 4 [Sun] should witness substantial growth at metros [target audience]... Strong *extended* weekend on cards... Thu 19.40 cr, Fri 13.10 cr. Total: ₹ 32.50 cr. India biz."
Further, a report in Boxofficeindia.com stated, "The drop is more in some areas but those areas are unlikely to work for this film anyway and the drop in metros which is the target audience is less than 30% and it is this audience which will decide the fate of the film." Despite the drop, the numbers are still pretty good. And with hardly any competition at the box office, Gully Boy is very much likely to perform better over the weekend. Apart from Ranveer and Alia, the film also stars Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Raaz and Siddhant Chaturvedi in important roles.
