Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt's first film together Gully Boy has not only hit the theatres but is off to a great start at the Indian box office as well. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, the musical drama released yesterday, February 14, and opened to rave reviews from the critics all over. And that wasn't surprising because the trailer of the film did seem very promising and got everyone excited for the Ranveer starrer. After receiving an amazing response at the 69th International Film Festival, Gully Boy has now taken a massive opening at the domestic box office. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to microblogging site Twitter just a while back and announced the first-day collection. He wrote, "#GullyBoy takes a massive start... #ValentineDay - not an official holiday - has given a big boost... Metros are rocking, contribute to superb total... Thu ₹ 18.70 cr [3350 screens]. India biz."
Adarsh later revealed the revised first-day collection of the film on Twitter saying that Ranveer starred had actually beaten Padmaavat as it collected Rs 19.40 crore on day 1.
As per Boxofficeindia.com, Gully Boy clocked in good figures mainly in Mumbai, Pune, and Bangaluru. In comparison, the film did decent business in other places. Though it wasn't a public holiday yesterday, Ranveer and Alia's film certainly got a good boost at the ticket windows because it was Valentine's Day. But how the film fares on the second day will be the real test for Akhtar's directorial venture. Since Ranveer and Alia both tasted box office success with their last releases, expectations were obviously high from their first collaboration together. Produced under the banner of Excel Entertainment, Gully Boy also stars Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Raaz and Siddhant Chaturvedi in supporting roles.
