Kashmir, January 19: An inspiring Bollywood biopic of Pakistani activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai is being shot in Kangan town of Ganderbal district in Jammu and Kashmir.  Malala’s biopic ‘Gul Makai' stars Reem Shaikh, Divya Dutta, Mukesh Rishi, Abhimanyu Singh and Ajaz Khan. Indian actress Reem Sheikh, playing the lead role in the biopic had earlier unveiled the first poster of the movie on her Instagram.  As per reports, the biopic, produced by Anand Kumar, is scheduled to be released in June this year under the banner of Renaissance Entertainment Pvt Ltd.

Reem Shaikh, an Indian actress is playing the character of the 20-year-old Malala in the biopic. Well-known child artist, Reem started her career back in the year 2009 and was seen in TV shows such as ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’, ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’ among others. The lead actress also shared the screen with Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar in the film Wazir.

The biopic- ‘Gul Makai' that is based on the Pakistani education advocate has already generated interest among activists and peaceniks on both sides of the border. Malala, at the age of 17, became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize. She survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban in 2012.

The actors have been shooting in the valley since January 3. The much-awaited biopic also features the late Om Puri, actress Divya Dutta, who is playing Malala’s mother, and Ragini Khanna. Kumar was quoted by media saying that the biopic is 50 per cent finished and that he is super curious to bring it to the silver screen soon.  Reports state that some part of the biopic was shot in Bhuj and Mumbai in 2016.
