Before we begin the list, we would like to give a disclaimer: We are only taking movies that have earned over Rs 100-200 crore at the box office. So if you don't see any of your favourites here, don't kill us!

Golmaal 3 (2010)

iwas perhaps the first Diwali release which made over Rs 100 crore at the box office. It had earned Rs 106.34 crore in its entire run. The third installment of Rohit Shetty's hit franchise, Golmaal 3 was a laugh riot which gelled perfectly with the vibe of Diwali. After all, it's all about being with your family and this film gave people ample scope to do that.

Ra.One (2011)

Shah Rukh Khan wanted to do this for his kids and he turned into G. One. A superhero film which showed a lot of promise but apart from visually stunning graphics, there was nothing much to write home about. But by the time people realised how uncomfortable this film is, it had already earned Rs 114.29 crore. Moral of the story is, content isn't the point here.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Son Of Sardaar (2012)

Clashing of movies on Diwali is nothing new. DDLJ, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Mohabbatein all went through that and became victorious. But in the year 2012, it had become damn ugly with the makers of both JTHJ and SOS trying to outwit each other at the theatres. Both the film however ended up making over Rs 100 crore at the box office.

Krrish 3 (2013)

Hrithik Roshan this time found Diwali empty for him and grabbed the opportunity. He released the third installment of the only hit superhero series in India, Krissh 3 and earned obscene amounts of money. In fact, this is perhaps the first Diwali release to enter the Rs 200 crore club. The film had earned Rs 244.92 crore or more at the box office. Although there were rumours of inflated numbers...just saying!

Happy New Year (2014)

This was the last time Shah Rukh Khan gave a humungous blockbuster at the box office. Since then, he is making do with strange films with bad box office outcome. Anyway, it was also Shah Rukh's last Diwali release. However absurd the movie was, people loved it so much that it became a Rs 203 crore earning movie on Diwali.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015)

Salman Khan is a man with a midas touch. Even his flops earn more than a lot of films with big stars in them. PRDP earned a massive Rs 210.16 crore. It saw the return of Salman with Sooraj Barjatya and a Diwali release for him after a long time.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016)

Although ADHM clashed with Shivaay that year and both made Rs 100 crore, Karan Johar's film takes the cake here because it earned much better than Ajay Devgn's film. ADHM had earned Rs 112. 48 crore.

Golmaal Again (2017)

Rohit Shetty returned to the theatres on Diwali with yet another Golmaal movie and it was a blockbuster. A horror comedy, Golmaal Again left everyone in splits and laughed all the way to Rs 205.69 crore.

Now the wait is to see who will be the next big Diwali blockbuster.
