Gold vs Satyameva Jayate Box Office Collection: Akshay Kumar's Film Dominates Over John Abraham's Action Thriller On Day 4
However, even with the five day weekend, both the movies are performing below par expectations.
Last week, we had two biggies coming out on the same day, i.e. August 15, which also happens to be Independence Day. Akshay Kumar's period hockey drama, Gold, clashed with John Abraham's action thriller, Satyameva Jayate on the same day. Thanks to the extended 5-day the movies got due to being released on a Wednesday and also they opened on a national holiday, both the films enjoyed a decent amount of success at the box office. However, by the end of day four, it was Akshay Kumar's film that took the lead by a pretty good margin.
As per the latest box office estimates, Gold, directed by Reema Kagti, has crossed the Rs 50 crore mark at the domestic box office. It has collected Rs 56.25 crore till now. However, the film is yet to be declared profitable since the production costs are on the higher side (Rs 85 crore estimate) and it needs to cross the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office. It would also work in helping Akshay's box office appeal, after his last film, Pad Man, failed to touch the Rs 100 crore mark earlier this year. Mouni Roy is the female lead in Gold, that also stars Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Kumar Singh, Amit Sadh and Sunny Kaushal.
On the other hand, Satyameva Jayate, directed by Milap Zaveri, has collected Rs 46.65 crore, nearly Rs 10 crore behind Gold. While this is still a decent performance for the film, SM has a couple of disadvantages on its side. For one, it is a violent film with an A rating, which keeps away the family audiences and the kids. Secondly, it has received less positive reviews compared to Gold. But one big advantage for Satyameva Jayate is that it has made on a lesser budget of around Rs 50 crore estimated (publicity costs included). So it can turn a profit in a couple of days.
However, even with the five day weekend, both the movies are performing below par expectations. This may be because they are eating into each other's share. What say?
