Independence Day releases hold a special place in Bollywood. There is a crazy fight to book this slot between the filmmakers, considering that it's a national holiday. Also, the movies which are themed on patriotism mostly struggle to get the slot solely. This time it was Akshay Kumar starrer Gold and John Abraham starrer Satyameva Jayate who booked this slot and are competing at the box office. However, the 'desi boyz' were quite confident about their respective films and this confidence has paid off on Day 1.

On the first day. Reema Kagti directed Gold has collected Rs 25.25 crore at the ticket windows. Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#Gold has an EXTRAORDINARY Day 1... Takes a FAB START at plexes across major centres... Wed ₹ 25.25 cr. India biz."

Speaking of Milap Milan Zaveri's action film, the action flick has collected Rs 20.25 crore. The analyst tweeted, "#SatyamevaJayate springs a BIG SURPRISE... Plexes are good, but single screens are ROCKING... Wed ₹ 20.52 cr. India biz."

Gone are the days when one would beat the other film. The audience has become wise and choosy. In this case, the fanbase of both the hunks got divided, giving their films a chance to perform equally good at the box office.
