One of the biggest box office clashes of August happened during Independence Day; i.e. August 15 when Akshay Kumar's Gold fought with John Abraham's Satyameva Jayate. Both the films got amazing starts at the box office, with each movie getting the highest opening day collections for their individual lead stars. Gold took the lead, of course, thanks to its family-friendly, nationalistic content, better reviews and Akshay Kumar's more box office friendly presence.

Now as per the latest update, Gold has entered the Rs 100 crore club. As per trade analyst trade Taran Adarsh's tweet, the movie has collected Rs 100.45 crore at the box office. He had tweeted, "#Gold crosses ₹ 100 cr mark on Day 13... [Week 2] Fri 1.85 cr, Sat 3.10 cr, Sun 4.75 cr, Mon 1.45 cr. Total: ₹ 100.45 cr. India biz... Akshay Kumar’s ninth film in ₹ 100 cr Club." Akshay's last film before Gold, Pad Man, had failed to achieve this milestone. This is also director Reema Kagti's second film to enter the Rs 100 crore club, after Aamir Khan's Talaash. Gold also becomes the eighth Bollywood film of the year to enter the Rs 100 crore club.

While this is a reason for Akshay Kumar fans to celebrate, it is still not a benchmark for the movie's success. As Taran Adarsh summed up in a previous tweet, Rs 100 crore is no longer the benchmark of success thanks to the increasing budgets of the film.

There is a reason for alarm since Gold took off to a blazing start and yet took 13 days to reach this milestone. Secondly, its budget is touted to be around Rs 85 crore, so the profit margin is relatively less. Finally, both Gold and SM have been accused of bloating their collections, making many trade experts question the authenticity of their box office performance.
