Taapsee Pannu's newest release Game Over has been the talk of the town ever since it released on Friday, June 17. The film's engaging storyline and Pannu's terrific performance have been lauded on social media by the movie critics. Directed by Ashwin Saravanan, the horror-thriller which has released in three languages - Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, however, hasn't managed to get cash registers ringing at the box office despite being touted as a really good movie. On the first day itself, the film failed to reach the Rs 1 crore mark which was highly disappointing. But on Saturday, Game Over performed better and raked in Rs 1.94 crore at the Indian box office. On Sunday, sadly, the home-invasion thriller again fell flat as it clashed with the big India-Pakistan cricket world cup match. Apart from that, Salman Khan's Bharat also gave some competition to the Taapsee starrer. And hence the collections weren't as high as they should have been.
Revealing the updated figures, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#GameOver picked up on Day 2, but saw limited growth on Day 3 due to #INDvsPAK cricket match... Fri 97 lacs, Sat 1.94 cr, Sun 2.04 cr. Total: ₹ 4.95 cr. India biz..." Interestingly, Taapsee's film wasn't a solo release as four other movies also arrived in theatres on Friday. None of the new releases, including Tamannah Bhatia and Prabhu Deva's Khamoshi, managed to draw the audience to the cinema halls. In fact, Khamoshi has merely collected around Rs 30 lakh in the opening weekend as per Boxofficeindia.com and that clearly means the movie is a total washout.
