From Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff’s War to Salman Khan’s Dabangg 3, Every Upcoming Bollywood Film of 2019 Expected to Enter the Rs 100 Crore Club
With three more months to go for 2019 to end, and still a few biggies to come, let's look at the films, apart from War, that could earn more than Rs 100 crore.
Will War be able to beat Aamir Khan's Thugs of Hindostan to score the highest box office opening for a Bollywood film? That's the one question that is making every Bollywood trade analyst curious about the upcoming Gandhi Jayanti release. Thugs of Hindostan earned Rs 52.25 crore as its first day collections, when it came out during Diwali last year. It's another matter that the later day collections couldn't match this trailblazing start. War, on the other hand, has a very good buzz going on for itself, and with a five-day extended weekend, it is expected to easily score more than Rs 150 crore by the end of the first weekend. If the reviews are in favour, then even Rs 200 crore won't feel a distant target. Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff's War Earns Rs 20 crore In Advance Booking; Expected To Grow More Today.
The whole 'Hrithik Roshan vs Tiger Shroff' promotional strategy has worked well in the marketing of the movie. Not to mention, the action sequences of War mounted on a visually large scale have also impressed the fans. There is no doubt that, even if the critics won't be swayed by it, Siddharth Anand's film, also starring Vaani Kapoor, will turn out to be a hit, that is a minimum Rs 100 crore grosser.
This year has been especially good for Bollywood films, with about 11 films entering the Rs 100 crore club (this list doesn't include regional films like Saaho, or Hollywood ventures like Avengers: EndGame and The Lion King). The films are - Kabir Singh, Uri - The Surgical Strike, Bharat, Mission Mangal, Kesari, Total Dhamaal, Super 30, Chhichhore, Gully Boy, Dream Girl and De De Pyaar De (as per Bollywood Hungama). Box Office: From Vicky Kaushal’s Uri to Sushant Singh Rajput’s Chhichhore, All the Bollywood Films of 2019 That Made It to the Rs 100 Crore Club.
With three more months to go for 2019 to end, and still a few biggies to come, let's look at the films, apart from War, that could earn more than Rs 100 crore.
Housefull 4
Most of the Housefull movies have entered the Rs 100 crore club, and I see no reason why Housefull 4 won't repeat the same trick.
With Akshay Kumar's brilliant box office track these days and the reception that the trailer has got, Housefull 4 could be the highest-grossing film of the franchise, and perhaps the first one to enter the Rs 200 crore club.
Release Date: October 25
Bala
Ayushmann Khurrana is going through a terrific phase in his career. His last two films, Badhaai Ho and Dream Girl, have entered Rs 100 crore club with ease.
With the curiosity over his bald appearance in Bala, and people loving his brand of humour, Bala could follow suit and give the National Award winner his second Rs 100 crore hit of the year.
Release Date: November 15
Pagalpanti
Comedy films, starring an ensemble cast filled with popular stars, have become a favourite at the box office. Earlier this year, Total Dhamaal turned out to be a huge hit, despite getting unfavourable reviews. So Anees Bazmee, the director of Welcome series and Singh is Kinng, can score a big hit with his Pagalpanti, which stars Anil Kapoor, John Abraham, Ileana D'Cruz, Arshad Warsi, Pulkit Samrat and Kriti Kharbanda.
Also, John is getting a lot of traction of a commercial, massy hero, so that's another advantage.
Release Date: November 22
Dabangg 3
Even if a Salman Khan film 'flops' these days, it still earns more than Rs 100 crore at the box office. Case in point, Tubelight and Race 3. But is there even a possible chance that the third instalment of the Dabangg franchise can flop?
Dabangg 2, which is a far inferior sequel to the entertaining first movie, earned more than Rs 200 crore at the box office. Chulbul Pandey is still adored by Bhai fans, and with Prabhu Dheva at the helm of things, expect another big hit from the franchise. The only dampener to its prospects is the one that comes in the next entry.
Release Date: December 20
Good News
Coming a week after Dabangg 3, the Rs 100 crore Khiladi Akshay Kumar joins hands with the most prolific producer of Bollywood, Karan Johar, for a romantic comedy.
With stars like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani in the cast, Good News has a good chance of scoring well at the box office, pushed by Akshay's fantastic track record.
Release Date: December 27
