The 63rd edition of Filmfare Awards commenced on January 20, 2018. The star-studded affair held at Mumbai’s NSCI Dome saw the talented duo, Irrfan Khan and Vidya Balan take the top honours after winning in the Best Actor category of Filmfare Awards 2018. Irrfan Khan beat the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kuma and Varun Dhawan to win Best Actor for his flawless performance in Hindi Medium. Meanwhile, Vidya Balan won her career’s sixth black lady, this time for her comical yet powerful display of acting chops in Tumhari Sulu. Saket Chaudhary-directed Hindi Medium bagged the 'Best Film' trophy. The 2018 Filmfare Awards full winners’ list included both popular as well as critics choices.

Filmfare Awards is the flagship of the Indian cinema industry. One of the oldest awards ceremonies in Bollywood is often seen as the answer to Hollywood’s Academy Awards also known as Oscars. And just like its Western counterpart, Filmfare Awards also finds itself in controversy over the eyebrow-raising nominations and results. When nominations for 63rd edition of Filmfare Awards was announced, it created a furore on the social media and rightly so. One of the glaring omissions was that of versatile actor, Rajkummar Rao.

The 33-year-old who did as many as four films in 2017 including Newton, India's official entry for Oscars 2018, was ruthlessly omitted from Best Actor category while his films failed to make a cut in the ‘Best Film’ category. Rather, he won Critics' Award for Best Actor for his work in Trapped and Best Actor In A Supporting Role for Bareilly Ki Barfi. Nevertheless, the overall final winners list should soothe movie buffs if not heal their wounds.

Irrfan Khan won his first Filmfare Award in Best Actor category. He had previously won Best Villain and Best Supporting Actor awards. His performance in Hindi Medium was truly remarkable and it did fetch him his maiden black lady for top awards category. Hindi Medium, a socio-comedy-drama that revolved around the education system in India earned 13 nominations tied up with Tumhari Sulu, 2017’s another great film. Here is the complete list of those who won big at the 63rd Jio Filmfare Awards 2018.
