Farhan Akhtar and Annu Kapoor starrer The Fakir of Venice was going to be the first Indie movie to release in 2019. But for the ones who are excited to watch this one, you'd have to wait a little more than you expected. Sorry to be the bearer of the bad news but the release date of the movie has been pushed. The Fakir of Venice was supposed to open in theatres on January 18 initially. But the makers have decided to postpone it to February 1 instead. The reason being the already crowded movie market at the moment. Yes, Ranveer Singh's Simmba and Vicky Kaushal's Uri are the reason why the movie will take two more weeks to its release.
As per a statement issued by the makers, The Fakir of Venice is getting a strong response from multiplexes all over. But the theatres are already stocked with Uri, Simmba and also Anupam Kher's The Accidental Prime Minister. Not to mention, Cheat India and Bombairiya are releasing on Jan 18 and Manikarnika and Thackeray are coming out the Friday after that. So, it seems like a good decision on the makers' part to bow out of this traffic. But again, the movie will still face competition from Sonam Kapoor's Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga and Nargis Fakhri's Amavas. So, for now, Bombairiya is the first indie movie to open this year.
The Fakir of Venice is directed by Anand Surapur, with Cocktail and Being Cyrus fame Homi Adjania contributing towards the story. AR Rahman has scored the music for the film
