Farhan Akhtar on Tanushree Dutta: Please Listen to Them Patiently, Don’t Doubt Their Intention

When Aashiq Banaya Aapne actress Tanushree Dutta levelled allegations of sexual misconduct against veteran actor Nana Patekar, some slammed her allegations while many celebrities came out in support of the actress; They also admired Tanushree for her courage. One of the celebrities was Farhan Akhtar who took to Twitter to extend his support and wrote on the micro-blogging site, "This thread is very telling. @janiceseq85 was there at the time of the incident being debated today. Even when #TanushreeDutta had career concerns to keep quiet 10 years ago she did not & her story hasn’t changed now. Her courage should be admired, not her intention questioned.

Talking about the same, Farhan, in a statement to Hindustan Times, said, "If the woman has decided to speak up, least we can do is listen to what she has to say. My biggest annoyance was even before we listened [to her story], people were insinuating that ‘because her career was over, she still wants attention’. I found that in really bad taste, further adding, "They have already been through enough and had to find this courage to be able to speak. The actor also stated that if a woman levels a false accusation against someone then it a sin. He told the leading daily, "If a woman levels a false accusation against someone that is later proved to be false, (it) would be doing a serious disservice to all women who are speaking up honestly. It’s a sin."

For the uninitiated, the actress alleged that Nana Patekar has sexually harassed her in 2009 while working on sets of Horn Ok Please. She also claimed that he has a history of abusing women. However, the veteran actor the allegations and referring to Tanushree Dutta's criticism, Nana Patekar told Times Now, "People can say whatever they want to say, I will keep doing my work."

Well, ever since Tanushree opened up about the horrific incident that took place on the sets of Horn Ok Please, many women have come forward called out the names of men who sexually harassed and molested them.
