Fanney Khan could be a musical, but above all, it is a movie about a father going to any extreme to make a career in music for his daughter, something he could never have. Anil Kapoor plays the lead in the film, the titular Fanney Khan, a taxi-driver whose singing career never launched. Pihu Sand plays his daughter, whose weight issues come in the way of her singing ambitions. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays her idol, a rockstar, who gets kidnapped by Khan and his friend, played by Rajkummar Rao so that she can make a rockstar out of his daughter.

The latest song from the film, Tera Jaisa Tu Hai, plays on the father's anxieties on protecting his daughter from getting humiliated by others for her weight. While those scenes look caricaturish, as no one screams at a girl anymore just because of her body, the song and the moments between Anil Kapoor and his family look really good. The song is composed by Amit Trivedi and is beautifully crooned by Monali Thakur.

Fanney Khan is directed by Atul Manjrekar and produced by Anil Kapoor and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. The movie is releasing on August 3, clashing with two other Bollywood movies, Irrfan Khan and Dulquer Salmaan's Karwaan and Rishi Kapoor and Taapsee Pannu's Mulk.
