Exclusive! Sai Tamhankar Gets Candid About Bollywood and What Prompted Her to Sign Love Sonia

Sai Tamhankar has always been my girl crush! The super confident, no-nonsense lady who likes to live by her own rules, is a delight as an interviewee. 'Ache questions puchna please', she requested before the camera started rolling and that was enough to get me numb. What if she hates my questions? Or simply refuses to answer them? My head was about to start spinning when she politely said hi with that million dollar smile of hers. From revealing the details behind her three-year gap to the fact that actors aren't lucky to pick critically strong subjects than commercial ones, Sai bared it all. As an interviewer, it's genuinely a delight to hear celebrities utter some really good and honest answers. Below is a small excerpt from my elaborate chat with Sai. Q Love Sonia received such great response for its trailer. However, did it ever make you sceptical since it's a very dark movie? 

Sai: Honestly, this was my concern since it's not a massy film. There are no songs in it. So, of course, I had my fear but when the trailer came out, I was overwhelmed with the response and I think such films are important. They should be made every now and then. Love Sonia for me wasn't a film but an experience.

Q How did Love Sonia happen?

Sai: Tabrez (Director) and David (Producer) had seen me in Hunterrr and I always believe that work gets you work. And that's what happened. Hunterrr got me Love Sonia so that's how I came on board.

Q What took you so long? From Hunterrr to Love Sonia is a three year gap.

Sai: I was getting similar kind of roles, so I did not want to do the same thing. There's no point in doing similar things again and again. I was ready to wait and I am happy I am a part of this wonderful film.

Q Was entering Bollywood a conscious decision on your part? 

Sai: No man, even entering this field wasn't a remorse thought in my mind when I was in my teens. It happened accidentally and then I embraced it with all my heart and love. And now, that's all I can do. I can't do anything else.

Sai hopes that Love Sonia helps her bag more meaningful movies in Bollywood that would challenge the actress in her. She's a director's delight and a great co-star to work with. The ones who have seen her act in Marathi movies know what a phenomenal performer she is and it's time Bollywood allows her to showcase her talent.
