Well, here comes the confirmation from the horse's mouth. Congress leader, Shashi Tharoor, made headlines when he revealed that he was approached to star in a Salman Khan movie. Of course, the politician declined the offer for reasons that he felt were best for him. But the fact that he was asked to play a foreign minister was enough for me to get all excited. The movie buff in me was going crazy to figure out the movie name and what better way to solve the query than ask the director himself. When Mr Tharoor mentioned that he was offered the role by a renowned filmmaker, the only name that kept ringing bell was Kabir Khan. It had to be Salman's collaboration with Khan and I was right! Congress Leader Shashi Tharoor Reveals He Was Asked to Star in a Salman Khan Film.
When I got in touch with Kabir Khan and asked him if he ever approached Shashi Tharoor for Ek Tha Tiger, the director's response was affirmative. He confirmed the news saying that he indeed approach Shashi Tharoor to play a foreign minister in this Salman starrer but the politician declined the offer. Well, the reason why he rejected the offer was a mere suggestion by one of his friends. His friend suggested to him that if he wants to be a foreign minister, he should never play a foreign minister. It's funny but valid enough!
Though the politician enjoyed getting such numerous film offers, he's disappointed that they didn't come sooner. “I am also far too old (to play a role now), I’m afraid, to have been at that stage of my youth when that movie was made. The irony is that after I came into Indian politics, I started getting movie offers. Why didn’t these come when I was young and handsome?” Salman Khan Goes Missing from Bajrangi Bhaijaan's Chinese Premiere; Director Kabir Khan and Harshaali Malhotra attend.
The entire saga of Shashi Tharoor in Salman Khan film started when the former was a recent guest of Firstpost's talk show, Social Media Star. It was during one of the segments when Tharoor made this interesting revelation and rest, as they say, is history!
