Exclusive: Farhan Akhtar Talks About Campaigning for Gully Boy at Oscars 2019 (Watch Video)
Farhan Akhtar is currently promoting his film, The Sky Is Pink. He will, soon, have to start promoting his production venture, Gully Boy, once again. The Ranveer Singh starrer has been nominated in the Best International Feature Film category at Oscars 2019. The makers of the film will soon start campaigning for the film at Oscars.
Farhan Akhtar has had a string of successes with projects like KGF, Made in Heaven, Inside Edge, Mirzapur. One big success was Ranveer Singh starrer Gully Boy. The movie about a rap artist rising to fame from the streets of Mumbai is India's official entry for Academy Awards 2020 in the Best International Feature Film category. Farhan is currently promoting his upcoming film, The Sky Is Pink, in which he stars opposite Priyanka Chopra. Soon, he'd have to start promoting Gully Boy once again to increase its chances of winning an Oscar. With the Oscars scheduled to be held on February 9, 2019, the campaigning for the nominations will soon begin. Farhan is excited to begin the process.
On being asked about campaigning, Farhan said, "It is a great opportunity that has been handed to us by the Film Federation of India. I am very thankful to them. We have a lot of work ahead of us to make it to the final 5 or 6 final nominations that will be announced in January. Gully Boy has been directed by Zoya Akhtar. The movie also stars Alia Bhatt, Sidhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Raaz, Kalki Koechlin alongside Ranveer. "Thank you to the Film Federation of India, Aparna Sen, Supran Sen, Anindya Dasgupta, members of the jury and a big congratulations to our spectacular cast and crew," Ranveer said in a statement on Instagram.
In the past, the Indian federation has sent movies like Paheli, Lagaan, Barfi, Newton, Rang De Basanti, Devdas, Peepli Live to name a few. Out of India's submissions in the past, only movies like Mother India, Salaam Bombay, and Lagaan have made it to the final nominations. We have our fingers crossed for Gully Boy. We are looking forward to the movie being selected and winning the Oscar. Also, we are looking forward to The Sky is Pink releasing on October 11.
