After Shiv Sena requested for a solo release of Thackeray, the film starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Balasaheb Thackeray, the makers of Cheat India have now, reportedly changed the release date of the film. According to a report in Pinkvilla, Cheat India, starring Emran Hashmi, will now, likely release a week prior to its initial release date on January 25. Which means, the official release date of Cheat India is now January 18. The makers have sent out official invites to the media and press inviting them to a press conference, which will be held tomorrow, where they will announce the same. However, Thackeray will still see a box office clash with Kangana Ranaut's Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi releasing on January 25, 2019. “We were thinking of releasing it on January 23, which is Balasaheb Thackeray Sir's birth anniversary date but later we thought of releasing it on 25th," said director Abhijeet Panse. Cheat India is based on the corruption in the Indian education system. Cheat India, directed by Soumik Sen and produced by Bhushan Kumar and Atul Kasbekar, also stars model Shreya Dhanwanthary as the female lead. The movie ran into a couple of controversies recently. First Delhi-based director accused the makers of plagiarising his film, Marksheet. Secondly, Soumik Sen and Atul Kasbekar were accused by an anonymous actress of sexual misconduct in the recent #MeTooinIndia movement. Kasbekar's production house issued a statement, saying that, "While we support the #MeToo movement in India, we urge for people to be wary of unsubstantiated allegations, particularly anonymous ones which could be mischievously made with ulterior motives."
