Emergency was originally set to release in theatres at the end of 2023 but was postponed to mid-June 2024 and then pushed back to September 6 due to the Lok Sabha Elections. On August 30, Kangana Ranaut claimed that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) was denying the film a certificate, possibly due to external pressures. According to recent reports, the political drama will now arrive in theatres after the Punjab elections. ‘Emergency’: Makers of Kangana Ranaut’s Biographical Film Agree to Cuts Suggested by CBFC.

A source close to the production told India Today Digital, “After agreeing to all the terms of CBFC, the team will most likely release the film after the Punjab elections. The film is really close to everyone’s heart and the audience should get to watch the film. So, after much consideration and not to hurt anyone's sentiments, the whole team decided that once the elections are over, they will decide on a suitable day and release the film. Releasing the film during a calmer time seems the best decision for now."

The CBFC informed the court that Emergency could receive clearance for release if specific cuts, recommended by the board’s revising committee, were implemented. Subsequently, Zee Entertainment Enterprises and Manikarnika Films informed the Bombay High Court that they accepted the suggested cuts and would require two weeks to make the necessary edits before resubmitting for certification. ‘If Bhindranwale Is a Terrorist, ’Emergency’ Should Release’: Kangana Ranaut Opens Up About the Delay of Her Film.

In September, during an interaction with ANI regarding the delay in Emergency’s release, Kangana Ranaut expressed, “I know how I made this film... I did not get any support from the film industry. It's made on a huge budget. I along with Zee and other partners created Emergency, and now with the release delay, everyone is bearing a huge loss. Delay release is a loss for all. I think the censor board should take the responsibility to release this film at the earliest.” The film also features Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade and Vishak Nair in pivotal roles.
