Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga Music Review: Melody Drives The Rehashed Songs in Anil, Sonam Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao's Film

What Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga's soundtrack lacks in originality, it makes up for that by at least not ruining the old hits.

Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga Music Review

If you are a Bollywood fan from the '90s, you know that the title of Sonam and Anil Kapoor's new movie, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, is taken from a popular song from that era. The song that goes with the same title belongs to 1942: A Love Story, which is picturised on Anil Kapoor himself. Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who had directed that film, is now content with staying as a producer for Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, while Shelly Chopra Dhar takes on the directorial duties. Rajkummar Rao is another lead actor in the film. Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga Trailer 2: Sonam Kapoor and Rajkummar Struggle to ‘Set Love Free’ From Anil Kapoor’s Caged Traditions – Watch Video.

Now for a movie that takes after one of the most evergreen songs in Hindi cinema, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga has surprisingly short album. With just three songs, out of which two are recreated tracks, it is upto Rochak Kohli, the composer, to make sure that the album is worth winning the listeners. Here's our review of the soundtrack -

Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga

The iconic song from 1942: A Love Story is still considered as one of the most melodious songs ever composed. Any recreation of that track is bound to have some of that charm. The title track of Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga is safe in that sense. You will fall in love in the song because it doesn't exactly screw up the essence of the original track. Darshan Raval's vocals are soothing, even if I still wish they had brought Kumar Sanu, the original singer, to croon once again. Even the additional lyrics by Gurpreet Saini are harmless. Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga: Not Just Sonam Kapoor's, Even Rajkummar Rao's Character Struggles With Sexual Identity in The Film?

Ishq Mitha

Every '90s kid would be know how big a chartbuster Bally Sagoo's indipop song "Ishq Mitha". The popular song also gets the same treatment as the previous track, recreated with new vocals, new lyrics and new chorus beats. Again, as with the title track, your liking for "Ishq Mitha" will be more for the catchy beats of the original song. "Ishq Mitha" has been sung by Navraj Hans, who brings a lot of enthusiasm to the song, and a mellow Harshdeep Kaur.

Good Morning

The only 'original' song in the album, "Good Morning" experiments with some very different beats using instruments like ukulele and mandolin. The feel of the song is similar to that of the kind of peppy songs you see in Hollywood musicals. Vishal Dadlani and Shannon Donald infuse enough enthusiasm in their energetic singing.

Final Thoughts

What Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga's soundtrack lacks in originality, it makes up for that by at least not ruining the old hits. Like some of the remixes, we hear and cringe. We just wish that a movie with such a soft name had a couple more songs that it can claim as its own.
