Ayushmann Khurrana is one of the brilliant actors that Bollywood is blessed with. Be it comedy or a crime drama, Ayushmann has always delivered an exceptional performance. Once again Ayushmann Khurrana as Dream Girl Pooja won over critics’ hearts. The film’s trailer did reveal the basic plot of it and also promised that Dream Girl would be a laughter riot. Mumbai Mirror – In his directorial debut, Raaj Shaandilyaa goes for a low-hanging fruit. The flm’s absurd premise naturally lends itself to comic situations. But Shaandilyaa, also the dialogue writer of Welcome Back, struggles to flesh out the story even while the one-liners hit the spot. This film had tremendous potential just for the one-line brief that may have excited investors to back it.
Pinkvilla – It's commendable for Ayushmann to experiment with such a role at this junction of his career, he proves yet again that he is a risk-taker. Nushrat Bharucha does justice to what was offered. She looks nice and vibrant but gets less scope to perform. Written and directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, as the film progresses, the audience is bound to be entertained with several punches and funny characters. In brevity, the much-anticipated movie is as a massy entertainer with a high dose of humour would be.
Huffpost – Dream Girl’s strongest part isn’t its story or its contrived messaging but the dialogues and how rooted they are in the film’s milieu. Everytime the film’s pace drops, a new set-up, which may not necessarily take the story forward as much as contribute to the existing chaos, emerges and gets the laughs. Dream Girl works best when it just wants to be a silly film with dark satirical undertones. Despite a terrific ensemble including Vijay Raaz and Rajesh Sharma, the film belongs to one man ― Ayushmann Khurrana.
Zoom – Ayushmann does a pretty great job and complete justice to his character; so do the others. Dream Girl is a hilarious film and definitely something that the masses will love to watch. Despite a few flaws, it keeps you entertained but you end up expecting more from Ayushmann-Annu duo that seems quite weak. It’s a fun watch with the family or your friends.
