Bollywood director Ashwini Dhir, known for his work in movies like the Ajay Devgn starrers Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?, Son of Sardaar and more, lost his 18-year-old son Jalaj Dhir in a car accident. According to The Times of India, Jalaj Dhir was supposed to travel with his father to Goa for the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2024. The teenager was travelling with his three friends in the wee hours when the accident occurred. Jalaj and a friend faced death after the brutal crash, while two others were injured. Reports suggest that Sahil Mendha, Jalaj's friend who was driving the car, was drunk. The vehicle was being driven at a speed of 120-150 mph when it collided with a divider between the service  road and the bridge at Vile Parle on the Western Express Highway (WEH).  Nishadh Yusuf Passes Away at 43; Malayalam Film Editor’s Recent Projects Include Suriya’s Upcoming Film ‘Kanguva’

As per reports, Jalaj Dhir and his friend Sarthak Kaushik passed away in the accident, after which their other friend, Jedan Jimmy, informed the police. Based on the complaint of 18-year-old Jimmy, Mumbai Police arrested Sahil Mendha. His blood samples have been sent for testing to check for the presence of alcohol in his system. According to Jimmy, Sahil lost control of the car, which led to the crash. The impact of the accident was such that Jalaj and Sarthak suffered fatal injuries while Jimmy and Sahil had minor injuries. Uma Dasgupta Dies at 85: Sandip Ray Reflects on Her Role As Durga in Satyajit Ray’s ‘Pather Panchali’, Says ‘She Was Instinctive Before the Camera’.

As per Jimmy's statement, Sahil became confused about directions near the Sahara Star Hotel close to Mumbai Airport Terminal 1, which led him to lose control of the car and crash directly into the divider. Later, Jimmy, with the help of two others, took Jalaj to a trauma hospital in Jogeshwari East. Jalaj was then transferred to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri West, where doctors declared him dead. Meanwhile, Sahil took Sarthak to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra West, where, after examination, he was also declared dead.
