Mumbai, July 6: Veteran actor Dilip Kumar died on Wednesday morning at PD Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai. Best known as Tradigy King, Dilip Kumar was 98. Dilip Kumar's spokesperson Faisal Farooqui confirmed the demise of the legendary actor. "With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, few minutes ago. Soon after the news of Dilip Kumar's death broke, several celebrities and prominent personalities across sports, film and political fraternity expressed condolences. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his condolence message, tweeted: "Dilip Kumar Ji will be remembered as a cinematic legend. He was blessed with unparalleled brilliance, due to which audiences across generations were enthralled. His passing away is a loss to our cultural world. Condolences to his family, friends and innumerable admirers. RIP."

Condoling the demise of Dilip Kumar, Congress lawmaker Rahul Gandhi said that the late actor's extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema will be remembered for generations to come. Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar said Dilip Kumar was the "hero" to all actors. "Sir has taken an entire era of Indian cinema away with him," he said. President Ram Nath Kovind, Ajay Devgan, Prakash Raj, Jr NTR, Naveen Patnaik, Hemant Soren, Sharad Pawar and several others mourned the demise of Dilip Kumar.

Dilip Kumar, whose real name was Yusuf Khan, acted in over 65 films and is known for his iconic roles in movies like 'Devdas '(1955), 'Naya Daur' (1957), 'Mughal-e-Azam' (1960), 'Ganga Jamuna' (1961), 'Kranti' (1981), and 'Karma' (1986). His last film was 'Qila', which was released in 1998. He is now survived by his wife and veteran actor Saira Banu.
