Did Asha Bhonsle Allude to Jai Sri Ram Controversy With Her ‘Hare Krishna Hare Ram’ Tweet?

Asha Bhosle, in her latest tweet, has taken a dig at the open letter written to PM Narendra Modi, by 49 film raternity members. Asha Bhosle asked if it was okay to sing the iconic song Dum Maro Dum which has lyrics like "Bolo subha sham, Hare Krishna, Hare Ram"

Certain members of the film fraternity united to write a letter to PM Narendra Modi protesting against mob lynchings and the usage of the Hindu phrase, Jai Shree Ram, during those incidents. 49 celebs, including Mani Ratnam, Anurag Kashyap and Aparna Sen, Konkona Sen Sharma, are the ones who took part in the initiative. Now, veteran playback singer, Asha Bhosle has taken a dig at the controversy. She tweeted, taking a jibe, "Dum Maro Dum...Bolo Subh Shyam Hare Krishna Hare Ram..can I perform this evergreen song or not?" Of course, she was asking if it's okay to say Hare Krishna Hare Ram.

The tweet has garnered reactions from both the ends of the spectrum. One user wrote, "I have been your fan since as long as I can remember

@ashabhosle ji & I am beyond disappointed to see this tweet . There is nothing funny about people being lynched in the name of our gods .  Whoever is handling your account should understand that this doesn’t suit your stature. Another user, from the opposite end of the debate, wrote, "Sorry ma'am liberals will find this offending as it has Lord Ram's name included"

With these words coming from a prominent name as such Asha Bhosle, the debate around the letter is only going to increase. Just today, 61 celebrities, including Kangana Ranaut, Prasoon Joshi, Vivek Agnihotri and Madhur Bhandarkar, wrote an open letter to PM against the earlier open letter. They accused the 49 celebs of selective outrage and that their letter is aimed at tarnishing India’s international standing
