Mumbai, August 3: Actor-director Deepti Naval received a malware scam email threatening to publicise her internet browsing history, and demanding USD 5,600 in bitcoin—nearly 0.74 bitcoin or Rs 3.9 lakh—within 24 hours. According to a Times of India report, after receiving the mail, Naval went and lodged a complaint with the Versova Police station, alleging sextortion because it contained her private information- like username, and password. The mailer also claimed to have videos of her certain browsing sites.

Naval arrived at the police station in a panic mode but was relieved when the officers calmed her down and registered a non-cognizable (NC) complaint. Reportedly, cyber experts have received several complaints in the past one month, and have advised the netizens to ignore these frauds.

As quoted in a TOI report, Naval said, " I do not want to talk anything about it. I am relaxed now. The cops told that the mail that I have received is a trash mail and asked me to ignore it." She had believed the threat to be real because the mail contained her password and other details. Police are trying to track the server from where the mail was sent.

Reportedly, it is a scam which is going on, and hackers are trying to threaten users by claiming that they have all their personal information. Cyber cell authorities, however, have assured that it is fake. However, stay safe in the open cyber world. Keep your eyes, and ears open to avoid falling prey to any cybercrime activities.
