Padmavat juggernaut has officially surpassed 2013 action-thriller Dhoom 3 box office collection to take sixth place in the all-time list of highest grossing Bollywood films (excluding Bahubali films). According to latest box office report of Padmavat, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor’s opulent period-drama has collected Rs 286.24 crores. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film touched the magical figures in the week 5, yes, it is running successfully on Box Office India. The landmark number also means Deepika Padukone has downed Katrina’s Dhoom 3 BO collection to cement her position as one of the most bankable actress in B-town. However, all is not lost for Kat as she is still miles ahead of Padmavati actress, thanks to the super-duper success of Tiger Zinda Hai!

Bhansali’s most ambitious and controversial movie till date, Padmavat faced major turmoil on its way to see the light of the day. But upon its release on January 25, the film has simply been on a roll. The film made on a large budget saw good returns, much to the joy of Hindi cinema industry. In the new age of box office, where a film finds it difficult to stick around for a week’s time, Padmavat is ruling the roost in its fifth week. Senior trade analyst and critic Taran Adarsh tweeted film’s total collection after Week 5 and it is everything glorious.

Adarsh writes, “#Padmaavat continues STEADILY to add to a BIG TOTAL... [Week 5] Fri 88 lakhs, Sat 1.56 cr, Sun 2.02 cr. Total: ₹ 286.24 cr. India biz... Note: Hindi + Tamil + Telugu. SUPER-HIT.” This is break-up of film’s collection in week five. If we take a look at Padmavat business in the five weeks, we see how it has consistently fared, earning Rs 166.50 crore in the first week, Rs 69.50 crore in the second week, adding Rs 31.75 crore in the third week while collecting Rs 14.03 crore and Rs 4.46 crore in the fourth and fifth weeks respectively. Mind you, the film battled mindless resistance and protests during the time of release and stiff competition from new releases in form of Padman, Aiyaari and now, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety – But, Padmavat has scored above all.

With Rs 286.24 crores, Padmavat eclipsed Aamir Khan-Abhishek Bachchan and Katrina Kaif starrer Dhoom 3, a film from Yash Raj’s hit Dhoom franchise. Dhoom 3 earned Rs 280.25 crore and is now pushed to seventh spot in all-time highest grossing movies list. Padmavat is currently behind Dangal (Rs 387.28 crore), Tiger Zinda Hai (Rs 339.00 crore), PK (Rs 337.72 crore), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (Rs 315.49 crore), Sultan (Rs 300.67 crore). It is no easy feat for Padmavat considering the film faced a ban in several Indians states. It is no-brainer that film would have crossed the prestigious Rs 300-crore mark had it got a regular release, nevertheless, the film has scored a sweet victory.
