Deepika Padukone is at the forefront of mental health awareness in India. The actress has talked candidly about her brush with depression several times. She was caught in a crossfire when Salman Khan said in an interview that he doesn't have the luxury to be depressed. The actress had indirectly addressed the statement back then. One year on, in an interview with Vogue, the Padmvaat star has directly taken a dig at Salman. In her interview, Deepika said that the word that best describes her depression is 'struggle'. She added, "Every second was a struggle. I felt exhausted the whole time.” Deepika Padukone Looks Like a Total Diva in This BTS Still from a Photoshoot and it is Sure to Make Your Sunday Better - View Pic.
Deepika further added, "People confuse it with being a bit sad. A male star said recently that he didn’t have the luxury to be depressed. As if, depression is a choice!” Deepika Padukone Goes for a No Make-Up Look On Latest Vogue Cover and We Love Her for Defying Beauty Norms With It - See Pic.
In March 2018, while interacting with the media, Salman had said, "I see a lot of people getting depressed and emotional, but I can't afford that luxury of being depressed or sad or emotional because no matter what I am going through, it works against me."
Later in the same month, during a panel discussion on mental health, Deepika noted that it is a myth that depression happens only to wealthy people. She said, “When we were talking about more celebrities coming out, there is also a misconception that depression happens to people who are successful. I want to clarify that it can happen to anybody from any field, irrespective of their socio-economic background. Depression is sometimes perceived as a luxury. People think that those who have too much time or money get into depression. I think it is very important to break that myth.”
Deepika and Salman have appeared together on multiple episodes of Bigg Boss together when the actress had to promote her film releases. But the two stars are yet to feature in a movie together. We wonder if, after a statement like this, which is no less than an open fire, they will ever work together.
