Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh-Shahid Kapoor starrer Padmavat is the hottest topic of the tinsel town. After facing several hurdles, the makers finally managed to lock the release date, January 25, in a clash with Akshay Kumar starrer Padman. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s India period-drama was under the radar of various segments including Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for political as well as cinematic reasons. The film’s title was changed from Padmavati to Padmavat, after which it was cleared to finally hit the screens, much to the relief of the makers and fans. However, amidst this chaos, it was reported that the CBFC demanded 300 cuts before clearing the film. Now, the film certification’s Chief Prasoon Joshi has come out to refute this rumour regarding Padmavat.
As per the reports, the writer-lyricist said in a statement, “The makers have submitted the final film with agreed five modifications which have already been communicated and a U/A certificate has been given to the film. CBFC’s process is complete and any further news about cuts etc is absolutely untrue. Let’s refrain from utilising CBFC’s name unnecessarily."
Meanwhile, the film is still in the troubled waters as it has been banned in Rajasthan as per the instructions of state’s Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. Also, the film has put the audience in a tough spot as Akshay Kumar- Sonam Kapoor- Radhika Apte’s social drama ‘Padman’ is releasing on the same date during the Republic Day weekend. Twitter is abuzz with multiple reactions to this box-office clash and even Amitabh Bachchan could not withhold himself from commenting on it. He tweeted, “ T 2526 – ‘PADMA’ the operative key word for film release on 26th Jan 2018 : PADMAvat & PADMAn .. !!” Well, all the eyes are just set on this period drama now and we won’t be surprised if the theatres put up ‘Housefull’ boards on the gates soon.
