December Box Office Round-Up: Ranveer Singh Packs a Solid Punch, Shah Rukh Khan Fails to Shine

A look at all the December releases and how they performed at the box office.

Ranveer Singh’s Simmba, Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero, Sara Ali Khan’s Kedarnath and Yash's KGF

While December is considered to be the golden month for movie releases, this time only one Bollywood film managed to get cash registers ringing at the ticket windows. Apart from that, December also saw a South release and a big Hollywood film hitting the theatres. Both the films surprisingly fared well and ended up minting good money. But let's first talk about the film that has not only broken box office records but is now cruising towards the Rs 250 crore mark at the domestic box office. Is Tiger Shroff The Next 'Simmba' For Rohit Shetty? These Images Are A Hint: View Pics!

Simmba

Ranveer Singh and Rohit Shetty's first collaboration Simmba was the last release of 2018. Co-starring Sara Ali Khan, the cop drama was expected to do well but Simmba surprised everyone with its phenomenal run at the ticket windows. After raking in Rs 50 crore in the opening weekend, the film then went on to enter the coveted Rs 200 crore club on day 12 itself. As of now, the Ranveer starrer has collected Rs 212.43 crore and is still going rocky steady.

Zero

Another big release this December was Shah Rukh Khan's highly anticipated film Zero co-starring Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif. Directed by Aanand L Rai, the film's trailer was lauded by one and all on social media but sadly the film could neither impress the critics nor the audience when it released on December 21. After underperforming at the box office, Zero ended up with a lifetime collection of Rs 89.35 crore in India as per BollywoodHungamaZero Box Office: Shah Rukh Khan’s Film Is a Disaster That Cannot Be Saved Despite Late Positive Reviews and Upward Trend – Here’s Why.

Kedarnath

Before Simmba, Sara Ali Khan was seen in Kedarnath alongside Sushant Singh Rajput which released on December 7. It was her first film and Sara gave a solid performance which didn't go unnoticed. After a slow start, Kedarnath picked up in the coming days and managed to rake in decent moolah at the box office. As per BollywoodHungama, the film had a lifetime collection of Rs 65.52 crore.

KGF

Yash and Srinidhi Shetty starrer KGF Chapter I was the sleeper hit of the month. The dubbed Hindi version turned out to be a crowd puller courtesy Yash's impressive performance. In fact, the film has now become the fourth highest grossing dubbed film after Baahubali 2, 2.0 and Baahubali: The Beginning. So far it has collected Rs 40.39 crore in Hindi and is still going strong.

Aquaman

From Hollywood, it was Jason Momoa's superhero flick Aquaman which fared pretty well in India. The film first released in China and stormed the box office by minting Rs $100 million in the opening weekend itself. On December 14, Aquaman hit the screens in India and got off to a decent start. The film then went on to enter the Rs 50 crore club and till now has collected Rs 52.60 crore at the ticket windows. Two more Hollywood films released in December - Mortal Engine and Spiderman: Into The Spider-Verse but both of them disappointed at the box office.
