Daler Mehndi, the popular Punjabi folk singer, is in news after the Patiala Court has found him and his brother Shamsher Singh guilty of human trafficking. Both the brothers had been accused of illegally sending people out of the countries, under the cover of their international tours, while taking a hefty fee from these migrants. Daler Mehndi had been convicted by the court and had been sent to imprisonment for two years. But then since he is rich and influential, both factors worked wonders in getting him, in what Twitterati claims the fastest bail ever.

The case against the brothers had begun in 2003, when a complaint was registered against them for sending people out of the country illegally for a fee of Rs 1 crore! We wonder if the people have the capacity to pay Rs 1 crore as bribe, why even bother to be illegal immigrants elsewhere? Anyway, as the news of the verdict (and the subsequent bail) came out, some very interesting details about the investigations were also revealed.

Like for example, were you aware of the fact that Daler Mehndi was asked to strip off his pants during the early stages of investigation. As per a report in The Tribune, this was a routine procedure to check for any identification marks on the leg regions as a part of the kursinama.

However, Daler Mehndi was revealed to be quite pissed off with idea of dropping his pants in front of strangers. Not just that, he even confessed that he was forced to sing during the questioning. He had said,  “Mainu bahut gussa aiya(I got very angry) but when I was told that this was a necessary formality, I took off my trousers." Even Daler's lawyer confirmed this, as he called the whole ordeal “inhuman and not permissible”.

As for the forced singing, Daler had this to say, "I am not mad that I should sing songs of my own accord. They told me they were my fans and that I should sing, for them which I did.”

Well it looks like Mehndi's singing didn't do much to influence the investigations. Watch this space to find out if the singer can manager to avoid jail-time.
